End to the Flats and Handwashing Challenge: Let's Tally Up Our Savings!

The Flats and Handwashing Challenge has come to an end. This past week has been like a reassurance to me that, in the event that we are no longer able to afford to machine wash Gabe's diapers, or if we travel, I can effectively hand wash his diapers without problems. By not machine washing diapers for 7 days we saved $18 this week, and that's just washing because I always hang dry diapers anyway. (This cost is based off of the shortage of diapers we are faced with, I am working on getting enough to space our wash days out more so we can wash bigger loads at cheaper prices)
Yesterday I shared with you that we only used 1 dozen flats, 2 covers, one set of pins and one snappi. Here's a breakdown of how much these things cost new:
What we used costs $42.09 brand new (and can be purchased from Diaper Junction using the link to the right). A box of approximately 100 Huggies cost around $30 and will last about 2 weeks. For less than the price of one month of disposables, you could successfully cloth diaper your baby from birth to potty learning.
I want to say a special "thank you" to Kim for organizing this challenge and opening my eyes to the savings our family has been missing out on. After today, I plan to continue to hand wash Bug's diapers, but will machine wash once a week to ensure a thorough cleaning. Be sure to watch Kim's blog, Dirty Diaper Laundry, to catch feedback she collected from everyone who took the challenge!

*A special "thanks" to Diaper Junction for the donation of flats to be used for this challenge!*
