#Tosowoong Vitalizing Essence #SheetMask #Review

The Tosowoong Vitalizing Essence Mask is a cotton mask that claims to hydrate, nourish and brighten skin. It also claims to contain wrinkle-fighting properties and can improve skins' overall quality.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Niacinamide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, 1,2-Hexanediol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Retinyl Palmitate, Thiamine HCl, Riboflavin, Niacin, Carnitine HCl, Pantothenic Acid, Tocopherol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Pinus Palustris Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Caviar Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Panthenol, Adenosine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dimethicone, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Polyacrylate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance.
Key:
Healing & Calming Ingredients
Moisturizing Ingredients
Brightening Ingredients
Potential Irritants

Do not use this mask if you are sensitive to butylene glycol, ethyhexyl palmitate, retinyl palimate, tosopherol, dimethicone, or any other ingredients.

This single-piece mask comes in a bottle shaped envelope. The essence looks like a sheer white color, and has a strong perfume-like scent, somewhat "fresh"? It's thicker than water - like a typical facial essence.

The mask is stretchy cotton material that feel very soft and holds on to a good amount of essence. The cut seems a little strange, not much, just like the holes are not as centered as most masks - and the way the mask stretches causes it to bunch instead of stretch out and lay flat. Slightly annoying.

This mask dried up fairly quick - in under 30 minutes. It did brighten my skin a bit, but the entire time I wore it my skin had a slight burning sensation. I was glad to finally take it off. No noticeable irritation, but an hour later there is an oily film on my skin that I can not get to absorb with any amount of patting. This seems like a nice before-bed mask, but not if you can't handle your face sticking to your pillow.

Would I buy it again? No.

I purchased this mask from Memebox USA* if you're interested in trying it out for yourself! If you've never purchased from Memebox before, you can save 20% by making an account and purchasing through my referral link*.

#Tosowoong Aqua TokTok CO2 Fresh #SheetMask #Review

No matter how much time you spend on your skincare, it seems your pores still need a little one-on-one time sometimes. That's how my skin is, anyway. My pores just rebel after a while and need a little deep cleaning to be whipped back into shape for a while. I'm a big fan of carbonated masks, and was excited to try this new one from Tosowoong.

The Tosowoong Aqua TokTok CO2 Fresh Mask is a two-piece, carbonated mask that comes in two pieces - well, maybe three? The gel essence is separated from the mask pieces themselves. With this particular mask, you apply the gel - infused with glacial water, niacinamide, and propolis - then apply the mask pieces.

Ingredients: Step 1: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Cellulose Gum, Potassium Alginate, Beta-glucan, Propolis Extract, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Glacier Water, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Water, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Water, Lippia Citriodora Flower Extract, Carbonated Water, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polysorbate 20, Panthenol, Adenosine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance.
Step 2: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Cellulose Gum, Vinyl Caprolactam/VP/Dimethylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit/Leaf Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Onsen-Sui, Water.

Starting out, you'll open the bottom portion of the mask packet, and squeeze out the gel.

The gel is clear in color, with a sweet herbal scent.

It's slightly cooling, but has no real feeling on it's own - that's where the mask pieces come in.

For the second step you'll open the main portion of the mask and remove two pieces of mask - one small forehead piece and one larger piece to cover the lower portion of your face. The mask has a plastic coating on one side, and a special infused paper on the other to allow it to react with the gel. Make sure you look over the pieces thoroughly to ensure you are placing the "paper" against the gel.

When you apply the mask pieces correctly, you'll instantly feel the gel bubbling against your skin - this may cause a stinging sensation, and may be painful for those with sensitive skin. This bubbling action is what deep cleans your pores, as well as brightening and firming your skin with the mixture of ingredients included in the gel.
This mask, however, has a terrible fit - and the paper does not sit against the skin, because the plastic backing makes it too stiff. In order for this mask to bubble at all, I had to hold it against my skin with my hands, and I have less hand than face, so it didn't work very well.

Unfortunately this mask didn't work out for me, at all. The mask pieces didn't stay put, and were very uncomfortable to wear. In the short amount of time the mask was on my skin I did experience a nice brightening effect, but this mask is not comfortable or effective enough to be worth the hassle.

I purchased this mask from Memebox USA*. If you've never purchased from Memebox before, you can save 20% by making an account and purchasing through my referral link*.

#Tosowoong Diamond Bird's Nest Aqua #SheetMask #Review

"Diamonds are a girls best friend," unless your broke as hell - then you're probably like me and hope to feel glamorous when you come across a diamond powder infused sheet mask, like this one from Tosowoong...

The Tosowoong Diamod Bird's Nest Aqua Mask is a two-piece hydrogel mask. The stars of this mask are diamond powder are swiftlet nest extract - of course I'm using the term "stars" loosely here. Diamond powder, as glamorous as it sounds, offers no actual benefit to the skin, besides the optical illusion of brightening and diffusing imperfections on the skin. Swiftlet nest extract, on the other hand, is a popular ingredient in Asia in both skincare and food. The extract is taken from swiftlet nests, which are constructed from the birds' saliva, and only bits are taken from each nest at a time so the birds can easily rebuild. Birds nest extract is supposed to rebuild collagen, aid in cell regeneration, and brightens and hydrates the skin giving an overall better complexion.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Citrus Junos Fruit Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Swiftlet Nest Extract (1,000 ppm), Butylene Glycol, Colloidal Platinum, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Disodium EDTA, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Bambusa Vulgaris Water, Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Salicornia Herbacea Extract, Phragmites Communis Extract, Fragrance, Potassium Hydroxide, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Diamond Powder (0.1 ppm).
Key:
Healing & Calming ingredients
Emolient & Moisturizing ingredients
Star ingredients
Potential irritants/acne triggers

Do not use if you are sensitive to castor oil, butylene glycol, or any other ingredients in this mask.

As with all two-piece masks, I apply the top half first so that I can get it situated, and then apply the bottom half accordingly and make sure I have enough mask between both pieces to cover my entire face. This mask has pearl paper on both sides, so you'll either remove one side, apply the mask then remove the other side - or you can remove both pieces of plastic and carefully apply the mask piece (which is what I do).

This mask is translucent with the diamond powder and titanium dioxide creating a silver sparkling shimmer all over the mask. The pieces applied easily, but they were still at first and didn't soften up until the essence had mostly absorbed into my skin. I got an overall good fit with this mask, but it wasn't the most comfortable to wear  - and while it seemed to have plenty of essence when I first opened the package, it seemed awfully dry when I had it on my skin.

When I removed the mask after about 20 minutes, I was a conflicted with my feelings about this mask. My skin felt plump, was soft, and looked brighter - but it wasn't very hydrated at all, which was surprising looking at all the hydrating ingredients this mask has. I was also a bit surprised to find large silver specs on my skin afterwards as well - like children's glitter, not fine or luminous at all. This mask was a bust for me. I love swiftlets nest extract in other products, but Tosowoong kinda let me down with this one.

I purchased this mask from Memebox USA*.

TL;DR: This mask contains diamond power to give a luminous glow, swiftlets nest extract to rebuild collagen and boost cell regeneration in your skin, and a slew of moisturizing ingredients. The fit is good but the material is stiff and takes a while to warm up. This mask is brightening and plumping, but not very hydrating.

#Tosowoong Super Aqua Abalone Essence #SheetMask

Tosowoong is one of those brands that I want to love, but their products are so "hit or miss" for me that I have a hard time splurging on new products from them. I had reviewed their Pure line of masks last year because I fell in love with the packaging - but was sorely disappointed by strong scents and minimal hydration. But on the flip side, their Enzyme Powder Cleanser is my favorite face wash right now. I have a few bigger items from Tosowoong on my wishlist right now, but I felt safer splurging on a few newer masks from them instead.

The Tosowoong Super Aqua Abalone Essence Mask comes is a very pretty purple paisley print packet, (say that three times fast...). The highlight of this mask is abalone, a marine snail, which is supposed to balance moisture in the skin and absorb/control excess sebum (which would be part of balancing moisture if you ask me). This mask not only claims to unclog pores but also to make the skin softer, smoother, and firmer.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Niacinamide, Abalone extract (1,000 ppm), Pinus Palustris Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Erythritol, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Allantoin, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Natto Gum, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Adenosine, Xanthan Gum, PEG-14M, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, propanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance.

Do not use this mask if you are sensitive to any of it's ingredients.

The mask itself is made from a bio-cellulose material that is thin and soft but holds a great amount of essence. The essence is thick like a serum, with little scent that does disappear once the mask is applied. I would describe it as a fresh scent, and definitely unoffensive in my opinion.

When applied, I felt a tingly cooling sensation on my skin, which surprised me, because nothing from the description indicated that I would encounter such a feeling. It wasn't unpleasant, and was actually quite relaxing at the time, but I did make a mental note to watch for any irritation that this would be an indicator of.

I left this mask on for about 40 minutes before it felt too dry in most areas to leave on my face any longer. Despite the relaxing feeling of the cooling sensation the mask left on my face, I could clearly see some irritation on my skin after removal. My skin was more pink in areas, and although not swollen or in pain, I had two small pimples show up overnight.

I purchased this mask from Memebox USA.

TL;DR: This mask has some big claims making it seem perfect for my skin; balances moisture, controls sebum, firms and hydrates. This mask fit great, had little scent, and gave a cooling sensation while on the skin. Unfortunately it seems to have irritated my skin by causing redness and two small pimples.

#Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash #Review

Cleansers are a necessary step in any skincare routine. It's easy to find something to cleanse your skin, but it can be a little tricky to find a cleanser that is truly perfect. I've tried many cleansers over the years but they all left me wanting to try something new - until now.

The Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash is a powder cleanser, in case you didn't guess from the name. It's a gentle exfoliating cleanser that is designed to deep clean your skin to remove dirt and impurities to give you a clearer complexion. It has a pH of ~5.5, which is perfect to protect and keep your skins' moisture barrier in tact.

The ingredients include papain which gently works to break down the surface layer of dead skin and help it wash away more effectively.

Do not use this product if you are sensitive to sodium laureth sulfate, papain, alcohol denatured, or any of it's other ingredients.

The packaging of this powder cleanser is very unique. Upon flipping up the top of the bottle you'll see a small opening - but the cleanser doesn't just pour out of that opening.

If you remove the cap, you will see a hole in the actual bottle itself, and the way the cap is designed, only allows a single "serving size" amount to come out into the well underneath the cap at each tip of the bottle.

The granules are small and easy to lather when you add water. I add just a few drops at a time until it lathers up well without running out of my hands or being too dry and sticky that the powder would be rough against my skin.

Below is a photo of the powder lathered in my hands. This is good enough for me to use the cleanser on a daily basis - I dissolve the granules and then apply the foam to my face, and massage it around for a couple minutes.

But my foam lovers need not worry, for this cleanser really delivers beautiful fluffy clouds if you pair it with a foaming net! This cleanser fluff is so amazingly soft, it feels like face wash heaven on your skin - but I'm generally in too much of a hurry to incorporate a net and most commonly use just my hands.

The things I love most about this cleanser though, are the results. After washing I notice immediately how much smoother and brighter my skin it. The first time I used it - my immediate reaction was "woah" because my face was visibly brighter and it was honestly unexpected to see that big of a difference. This brightening isn't long-lived, but does help over time with it's exfoliation. Even with alcohol denat being in the ingredients, this cleanser is gentle enough to not irritate my skin at all, and has actually cleared up a lot since including this cleanser in my routine. I think that, being a dry product, the alcohol looses it's harsh nature and doesn't "reactivate" the same as it would act when in contact with the skin as a constantly wet product would - or my skin would have degraded long before I finished my second bottle...

TL;DR: This cleanser has a low pH and is very gentle on my oily, dehydrated, acne prone skin. It makes my skin smooth, bright, and helps clear my acne. I've repurchased already and plan to again in the future!

This product was purchased my me from Memebox USA (affiliate link).

#Tosowoong Rice Paper Pack #Review

Tosowoong Rice Paper Pack (Original)
23g | Made in Korea
This item was purchased by me.

Description: A highly nourishing mask derived from pure rice extract that delivers nutrients and moisture to keep the skin healthy and glowy. This mask is rich in Vitamins B and E which effectively brightens up the complexion while getting rid of toxins from the skin. It also keeps the skin firm and elastic for a more youthful-looking skin. -Memebox

Ingredients: [Cosdna analysis] Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Glycereth-26, Trehalose, Betaine, Wild Rice Extract (1000ppm), Aspergillus/ Rice Ferment Extract, Oryza Sativa Germ Extract, Oryza Sativa Extract, Secale Cereale Seed Extract, Barley, Phaseolus radiatus seed extract, Polygonum Fagopyrum Seed Extract, Amino Acid, Urea, Adenosine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Styrene/VP Copolymer, Disodium EDTA, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Fragrance.

Directions: Open the mask tray and pour all the essence in it. Close the tray and leave it for 5 minutes until the essence forms a gel-like mask. Place the mask onto the face and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. After 15 to 20 minutes, remove and pat gently for better absorption.

My skin is oily, dehydrated, acne-prone with hormonal cystic acne from PCOS and sensitive to alcohol, bee venom and propolis.

Performance: The Rice Paper Pack from Tosowoong comes in a large foil packet to house the tray holding the two dried rice paper pieces. Inside the large packet is a tray that unfolds to reveal the two mask halves (which tears in half to create a rehydration tray for each piece) and a small packet holding the mask essence that rehydrates the rice paper. After separating the tray and placing one rice paper in each tray, divide the essence between them, and allow the papers to absorb the essence for ~5 minutes. At this point, the mask will have absorbed the essence and turned the paper into a gel-like mask piece.

In my experience the paper does absorb the essence, but it's not enough and parts of the paper are still a bit stiff, and the papers are still so dry that they don't want to lay out flat once you remove them from the tray. When trying to apply each piece to my face, the edges of each piece rolled up into itself, and it was too dry to adhere to my skin properly. Despite my best efforts to be delicate, the mask too dry to function properly, and just ended up tearing as I tried to lay it straight.

Verdict: Because of the dryness and the masks' inability to stick my face well, I was only able to wear the mask for about 5 minutes. At this point my face was itching, and uncomfortable. I removed the mask, surprised that some redness had already disappeared from my complexion.

I only experienced a 3% increase in moisture, but this isn't bad at all considering how short of a period of time I actually had the mask on my face. After this experience I'd be compelled to say that this was a poor masking experience and I wouldn't try it again, but maybe with some extra water added this mask would perform a bit better?

This mask is infused with pure Aloe vera leaf extract which soothes irritated skin to minimize redness and prevent further aggravation. Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Xanthan Gum, Peg- 60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Dipotassiumglycyrrhizate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Sodium Polyacrylate, Disodium Edta, Allantoin, Panthenol, Parfum
[Cosdna analysis]

Directions: After cleansing and toning, place the mask onto the face and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. After the allotted time, remove the mask and dispose properly. Pat the remaining essence to allow better absorption.

My Skin: oily, dehydrated, acne-prone, hormonal cystic acne, sensitive to alcohol, mild anti-aging concerns.

Performance: My skin has been very irritated lately - I'm not exactly sure what is causing it but I have cystic acne on my cheeks and along my jawline. So the test with this mask is soothing my irritated and swollen skin. The Tosowoong Pure Aloe Mask has a sweet and fresh aloe scent that is light and very pleasing. The soft cotton is thick but pliable and fits my face very well - like the other Tosowoong "Pure" masks. I wore this mask for about 30 minutes before removal, but it was still damp enough to wear longer. It feels very soothing and calming while it is on my skin.

Verdict: After removal my face was in much less pain and the swelling had gone done drastically. The lighting in the photos below is slightly different, but hopefully you can tell that the redness in my face subsided as well. These are definitely a win for me.

Tosowoong Pure Deep Sea Water Mask [Review]

Tosowoong Pure Snail Mask
23g | Made in Korea
This mask was purchased by me from Memebox.
Description: Bring your skin back to life with Tosowoong Pure Mask! Say goodbye to dull, unhealthy and lifeless skin with this rich mask infused in premium natural extracts that fully nourish the skin to deliver all the nutrients the skin needs to achieve a flawless, soft and healthy condition. With Deep seawater as its key ingredient, this mask provides exceptional anti-aging properties that help make the skin firmer and softer. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while also brightens the skin for a more youthful look. -Memebox

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Sea Water, Xanthan Gum, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Dipotassiumglycyrrhizate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, sodium Polyacrylate, Disodium Edta, Allantoin, Panthenol, Parfum

Performance: The Tosowoong Pure Deep Sea Water Mask has a fresh perfume-like scent that is fairly prominent at first but disappears a few minutes after application. The essence is soaked into the mask, and doesn't drip, but there is enough for me to rub into my neck right after I apply it to my face. The mask fits my face very well, with slits on either side of the chin area to get a more custom fit. This mask lasted about 30 minutes before it started to dry out, which is faster than some of the other Tosowoong masks. This mask was not irritating, but it was not soothing either. It was just... wet.
As you can see from my moisture meter readings below, the mask boosted my skins' moisture content by roughly 20% from the point where the mask had been removed for 5 minutes, but that increase dropped to almost pre-mask levels by the time an hour had passed.

Verdict: This mask does have a stronger scent than I prefer, but it's one that I can tolerate in exchange for a good masking experience. The hydration boost is great, but not long-lasting. There is not soothing or brightening effect from this mask either. Unfortunately this experience was a bust, and I won't be repurchasing the Tosowoong Pure Deep Sea Water Mask.

Tosowoong Pure Snail Mask [Review]

Tosowoong Pure Snail Mask
23g | Made in Korea
This mask was purchased by me from Memebox.

Description: Bring your skin back to life with Tosowoong Pure Mask! Say goodbye to dull, unhealthy and lifeless skin with this rich mask infused in premium natural extracts that fully nourish the skin to deliver all the nutrients the skin needs to achieve a flawless, soft and healthy condition. Infused with concentrated snail slime filtrate, this mask effectively repairs damaged skin tissues to restore the skin’s original, beautiful texture. Recommended to people suffering from acne scars and other forms of skin damage, Tosowoong Pure Snail Mask is a great option to aid in regenerating new, healthy skin cells. - Memebox

Ingredients: [Cosdna analysis]

Directions: After cleansing and toning, place the mask onto the face and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. After the allotted time, remove the mask and dispose properly. Pat the remaining essence to allow better absorption.

My Skin: oily, dehydrated, acne-prone, hormonal cystic acne, sensitive to alcohol, mild anti-aging concerns.

Performance: First of all, I want to point out the scent of this mask ~ it's been a long time since I used a mask that I could barely keep on my face because the scent was so strong, and the other Tosowoong masks I've tried so far really have been pleasant, but this... this was offensive... This mask smells like a decorative soap - you know the ones, that fake floral soapy smell. Yeah... Ick.
Aside from the smell, the amount of essence in the mask is perfect ~ very wet but not dripping. The mask fits my face very well (like the other Tosowoong masks) and the mask lasted about 45 minutes before I had to take it off. The scent did disappear after a while, but I was stuck with a headache the remainder of the evening.

Verdict: This mask was lightly hydrating ~ I was able to follow with a thin layer of cream afterwards but I definitely couldn't have stopped my routine after this mask like I sometimes can with others. This mask was also brightening - which was surprising since this is an anti-wrinkle mask. My face did feel only slightly firmer afterwards, but because of the scent this is not a mask I will be repurchasing.
