January BarkBox #Review and #Discount

Sorry for the outrageous delay with January's BarkBox review, it's been a heck of a past few weeks!

Here's what the chi's received in their January BarkBox:

Pet Qwerks Chevron Bear:
Very colorful and has a squeaker. Venus has claimed this as her own and will not allow it to be taken out of her bed. I'm seeing this valued at roughly $7 by other BarkBox recipients, though I cannot actually find it for sale online, leading me to believe that it's a BarkBox exclusive item.

Loving Pets Barksters:
At first I thought these were puffed sweet potato (and they are, with beef too) but the smell threw me off. They smell fried, which made me nervous, but they are not greasy, nor are they actually fried. They are wheat and gluten free, and they are made in New Jersey. Average price per package is $9

Think! Dog Alligator Jerky Treats:
These made me laugh a little, until a realized they were made from real alligator. Then I had to let the girls try them right away. These are perfect for tiny pups, and are also great for dogs with allergies to more common proteins. Average price per package is $7.

Harry Barker Tug n' Toss:
Great for chewers, teethers, retreivers, and more. Very brightly colored, and softer than other rope toys I've bought in the past. Made from AZO-free dye on cotton, and is machine washable! Comes in three different sizes and a variety of colors. Average price on these is about $6-$10 depending on size.

Etta Says Deer Chew:
A special blend of deer meat and rawhide, keeps your dogs teeth and gums clean. Venus loved this! Priced at roughly $2 a stick.

You can enjoy the fun goodies with your dog too!

December BarkBox #Review and Discount

The girls received their December BarkBox last week! Shipping was a little slow due to the holiday, but they still were able to enjoy their goodies for Christmas!

Here's what was included in this months' box:

Simply Fido Rope Toy:

This toy is made of organic cotton fabric, recycled fiber filling, is non-toxic, uses low eco impact dyes, and is environmentally friendly. There wasn't an identifying name for the toy, but if I had to guess I would say it's a goat rope toy. I could not find this particular one online, so maybe it was an exclusive for BarkBox? Average retail value for these particular Simply Fido toys is around $10.

GoDog Yeti:

This was my favorite of the two toys in the box because it has a squeaker (Venus' favorite) but it also features "Chew Guard Technology" which is a black mesh netting underneath the outer fabric, preventing your dog from ripping apart the toy. So far, this technology has worked beautifully! Normal stuffed squeaker toys last a maximum of an hour in our home with Venus, but this is still going strong after a week! We received a mini in our "small" box which retails for about $10.

Planet Dog eats:

Wheat, corn, soy, and wheat-gluten free! We received Chicken and pumpkin pot pie flavor treats which naturally supports digestion with that yummy pumpkin. Normally we're not a biscuit household, but these were a nice size for the girls! These are normally sold in 12oz boxes for $10, but were sent in sample sizes of 4oz to BarkBox subscribers, which would probably be about $3.50 each.

Bistro Bites:

Teeny tiny crunchy treats, these have been a huge hit! They smell like peanut butter and are a little more airy than kibble, so easier to chew I think for the girls. A four ounce box runs about $8.

BarkWorthies:

These are the most absolute favorite thing for both our girls, out of all treats, toys and chews they've ever tries. They are long lasting and help keep their teeth clean! A single 6" junior bully stick from Barkworthies is just under $3.

You can enjoy the fun goodies with your dog too!

BarkBox Review and Coupon Code

Who doesn't love to spoil their pets? Right, I didn't think so... That's why I was so excited to hear about a subscription that allows you to receive a surprise assortment of treats and toys right at your front door every month!

Maybe you've heard BarkBox mentioned on the web, or maybe in a magazine, but maybe you had no idea such a thing existed at all! Each box contains 4-6 treats, toys, or hygiene products. Treats are sources from the USA and Canada. Chews can come from the USA, Canada, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. Toys and grooming/hygiene products are usually sourced from the USA, but exceptions are made here and if an item is deemed safe by their testers these items can come from anywhere in the world.
BarkBox is a monthly subscription that comes in three different plans: monthly, six months, or one year. All plans are paid for up front, but monthly you are billed by month. The items you receive are based on the size of your dog. BarkBox allows you to choose the size that best suits your furry pal by small, medium, or large.

I contacted BarkBox because I had heard this service mentioned a few times, but I was getting a lot of mixed reviews, so I had to just see for myself. I order the small box which is for dogs 25 pounds and smaller. I signed up for a monthly subscription since I was just testing it out, and the monthly cost was $29. If you subscribe for six months or one year you get a great discount off of the monthly price! Here is what we received:

BarkWorthies 6" Natural Treat Stick, Original Recipe
The natural treat stick was a huge hit with Venus. It actually only took her less than 5 seconds to chow down the whole stick. I originally gave it to Ocean, but Venus somehow ended up with it lol. The only downside was that it was far too much grain at one time for Venus, so she looked like a furry tomato for the rest of the day.

BarkWorthies 6" Odor Free Thick 100% Beef Pizzle (Bully Stick)
This was the biggest item out of the box! Popularity wise that is... Both the girls loved this stick. I have to admit, after all the chews we've gone through with Venus, this one really had almost no odor at all, which I loved!

Orbee-Tuff Raspberry ball (mint scented with treat spot)
This is a cute toy that I've actually wanted to try for a while now. It really does smell like mint, it's small, soft, and the treat hole is a nice idea, but Ocean wanted nothing to do with it and Venus was only interested for the first hour or so it was here. All is not lost though, since the dogs won't play with it, Gabe has claimed it as his lol.

Loving Pets Grill-icious All-Natural Beef Treats
I am sad to report that these are the biggest flop out of everything we received. The bag says "bite size" but these are not bite size for a dog 25 pounds or under. Maybe for a medium dog, definitely for a large dog, but they are too big and way too hard for the girls. I was really impressed because the only ingredients in these treats are beef and sweet potato, but alas, they are just not a small dog treat. Venus will eat them if I cut them up into quarters and soak them in water for a bit.

Bocce's Bakery Green Juice biscuits
I was both surprised and happy to see a locally made treat to BarkBox. Right from New York, Bocce's Bakery's "Green Juice" biscuits are made from oats, rye flour, organic spinach, apples, kale, flax seeds, spirulina, and mint. Ocean refuses to eat them (I've found after receiving this box that she really prefers soft treats...) but Venus loves them! She has a mild allergy to oats, but if she only has one every day or two, she does fine. They are a like "special" treat for her ;)

Overall, I think the BarkBox is a good value. If you're unsure about the price, remember that they also donate 10% of the cost of your BarkBox to a local shelter or rescue!
