So there I was, sitting at my desk, eating Nutella with a spoon, thinking about how much I just wanted to have a nice evening to myself. When suddenly it dawned on me that I have some "special occasion" sheet masks collecting dust, waiting for me to decide it's time to use them. This night, my friends, would be one of those nights. This night, being Valentines Day. And special occasion, being "I hate my life and want something to enjoy before my family makes me rip my hair out."
So that's the night that I finally broke down and used my 23Years Old Black Cavidol Mask.

It's a mask that I've kept (like many others that Hanna has suggested to me) for use on special occasions or when I need an extra special pick-me-up. As a gal with clogged pores (and plenty of them) I was excited to give this mask a try. It's a three step mask (as the title implies) and since it has "pore" in the name, and a hilarious illustration of blackheads and sebum being pulled from the skin, I thought the chances were pretty good that this mask would be pretty useful to me.

Choonee Horse Fat Rejuvenating Mask Pack Review #bbcosmetic
Albeit controversial - horse oil is one of my favorite skincare ingredients. I discuss, in detail, the benefits of horse oil in my review of the Guerisson 9 Complex Essence, if you're interested in learning more. But for the sake of keeping things simple and easy to read - I love horse oil because it's beneficial to acne prone skin - like mine - and is the closest to human sebum than any other animal fat. What does this mean? Well, it means that it's perfect for balancing your skin, and absorbs nicely due to it's fatty composition.
Horse fat is a by-product of the horse meat industry by the way. I know this is still disturbing for some to hear, but I just want to point out that horses are not killed for their oil for beauty products - they are sold for meat in certain countries and their fat is rendered at a by-product to utilize more of the animal. Waste not, want not!
So now that's I've gotten all the juicy details out of the way - I'll introduce the centerpiece of this discussion, which is the Choonee Horse Fat Rejuvenating Mask Pack.
This mask was generously sent to me by BB Cosmetic - who I've noticed carries more than just a handful of items from my wishlist. And not only do they offer very competitive pricing, but I've been very pleased with their service thus far as well.
This mask has been on my Amazon wishlist for quite some time now, but I never got around to clicking that order button... So I was fighting to withhold my excitement when it was offered to me for review. As I mentioned above, anything horse oil is all the rave in my skincare wardrobe right now, so this couldn't get on my face quick enough.
Aside from horse fat (100ppm), this mask also contains collagen for plumping fine lines and several plant and herb extracts for soothing and hydrating the skin.
The essence is clear, thick like a serum and smells like herbs and fruit - herbal citrus maybe? It's good, not overwhelming, and disappears once on the skin.
The mask is like a cotton mesh - soft with a small amount of stretch to really get around the form of your face.
There's a nice amount of essence left over once the mask is applied as well - I like to smooth it between my hands and pat as much as possible onto the mask, then apply the rest to my neck, decollete, and arms if there's even more after that.
The mask itself offers a pretty nice fit! I get coverage from the top of my forehead to the bottom of my chin, and to the edges of my face on either side. I have a small gap on either side of my nose which is normal for almost all masks.
This mask stays damp for around an hour - I try to remove around 45 minutes to prevent any drying from prematurely sucking any moisture back out of my skin.
Afterwards my skin is hydrated and plump - definitely bouncy and has a nice healthy glow to it. There is a small amount of pink to my skin, which I contribute to the mild cooling effect I feel - and I really mean mild, most likely from the peppermint in the ingredients list.
A very nice mask that I'll definitely be using more of in the future - I can't wait to try more varieties from Choonee now as well!

This single-piece mask comes in a bottle shaped envelope. The essence looks like a sheer white color, and has a strong perfume-like scent, somewhat "fresh"? It's thicker than water - like a typical facial essence.
The mask is stretchy cotton material that feel very soft and holds on to a good amount of essence. The cut seems a little strange, not much, just like the holes are not as centered as most masks - and the way the mask stretches causes it to bunch instead of stretch out and lay flat. Slightly annoying.
This mask dried up fairly quick - in under 30 minutes. It did brighten my skin a bit, but the entire time I wore it my skin had a slight burning sensation. I was glad to finally take it off. No noticeable irritation, but an hour later there is an oily film on my skin that I can not get to absorb with any amount of patting. This seems like a nice before-bed mask, but not if you can't handle your face sticking to your pillow.
Would I buy it again? No.

#Tosowoong Aqua TokTok CO2 Fresh #SheetMask #Review
No matter how much time you spend on your skincare, it seems your pores still need a little one-on-one time sometimes. That's how my skin is, anyway. My pores just rebel after a while and need a little deep cleaning to be whipped back into shape for a while. I'm a big fan of carbonated masks, and was excited to try this new one from Tosowoong.
The Tosowoong Aqua TokTok CO2 Fresh Mask is a two-piece, carbonated mask that comes in two pieces - well, maybe three? The gel essence is separated from the mask pieces themselves. With this particular mask, you apply the gel - infused with glacial water, niacinamide, and propolis - then apply the mask pieces.
Ingredients: Step 1: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Cellulose Gum, Potassium Alginate, Beta-glucan, Propolis Extract, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Glacier Water, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Water, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Water, Lippia Citriodora Flower Extract, Carbonated Water, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polysorbate 20, Panthenol, Adenosine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance.

For the second step you'll open the main portion of the mask and remove two pieces of mask - one small forehead piece and one larger piece to cover the lower portion of your face. The mask has a plastic coating on one side, and a special infused paper on the other to allow it to react with the gel. Make sure you look over the pieces thoroughly to ensure you are placing the "paper" against the gel.
When you apply the mask pieces correctly, you'll instantly feel the gel bubbling against your skin - this may cause a stinging sensation, and may be painful for those with sensitive skin. This bubbling action is what deep cleans your pores, as well as brightening and firming your skin with the mixture of ingredients included in the gel.
This mask, however, has a terrible fit - and the paper does not sit against the skin, because the plastic backing makes it too stiff. In order for this mask to bubble at all, I had to hold it against my skin with my hands, and I have less hand than face, so it didn't work very well.
Unfortunately this mask didn't work out for me, at all. The mask pieces didn't stay put, and were very uncomfortable to wear. In the short amount of time the mask was on my skin I did experience a nice brightening effect, but this mask is not comfortable or effective enough to be worth the hassle.

Thank goodness it's warm outside today - sort of.. You know it was 70 degrees here a couple weeks ago, then all the sudden the temp dropped to below zero and we got more snow! My skin has been getting very dehydrated again lately, even with the mid 40's to 50's temperatures the past few days - so I'm not only layering essences and serums, but also looking for hydrating sheet masks too!
The Scinic "Aqua White" Black Dual Mask is a two-piece black cotton mask infused with charcoal, designed to hydrate, brighten, and detoxify your skin.

Something I love about black masks is that they're super thick - meaning they can hold onto a ton of essence - but still super soft and floppy, able to hug all the contours of your face. It's a seemingly rare combo, but something about the cotton used or the charcoal infusion itself allows this to happen.
As with all two-piece masks, I unfolded the top half first, and applied it to my face. Immediate panic set in, as I saw the huge gaps on either side of my nose, and wondered how on Earth I would finagle the bottom half into covering some of these gaps...
However, I worried for nothing. Scinic was just looking out for side nose coverage here (my best guess), because when I applied the bottom half of the mask everything was covered. And I mean everything! This mask was like the sopping wet, hydration blanket my skin has been searching for - and the v-line attachment on the lower half of the mask really sealed the deal for me. This sweet comfy baby stayed wet for an hour before I had to get ready for Easter dinner. Damn...
Upon removal my skin was brighter, and so very hydrated - I couldn't believe it! My skin was literally glowing afterwards. My skin soaked up a nice daytime cream afterwards and my makeup applied beautifully. I need more of these - they give my skin life!

TL;DR: This is a black charcoal hydrating mask that clarifies and brightens. It hugs the entire face and v-zone, and feels so squishy and wonderful against the skin. It stays wet for an hour or more, and leaves the skin hydrated and luminous. A must have!

Something I love about black masks is that they're super thick - meaning they can hold onto a ton of essence - but still super soft and floppy, able to hug all the contours of your face. It's a seemingly rare combo, but something about the cotton used or the charcoal infusion itself allows this to happen.
As with all two-piece masks, I unfolded the top half first, and applied it to my face. Immediate panic set in, as I saw the huge gaps on either side of my nose, and wondered how on Earth I would finagle the bottom half into covering some of these gaps...
However, I worried for nothing. Scinic was just looking out for side nose coverage here (my best guess), because when I applied the bottom half of the mask everything was covered. And I mean everything! This mask was like the sopping wet, hydration blanket my skin has been searching for - and the v-line attachment on the lower half of the mask really sealed the deal for me. This sweet comfy baby stayed wet for an hour before I had to get ready for Easter dinner. Damn...
Upon removal my skin was brighter, and so very hydrated - I couldn't believe it! My skin was literally glowing afterwards. My skin soaked up a nice daytime cream afterwards and my makeup applied beautifully. I need more of these - they give my skin life!

TL;DR: This is a black charcoal hydrating mask that clarifies and brightens. It hugs the entire face and v-zone, and feels so squishy and wonderful against the skin. It stays wet for an hour or more, and leaves the skin hydrated and luminous. A must have!

The Tosowoong Diamod Bird's Nest Aqua Mask is a two-piece hydrogel mask. The stars of this mask are diamond powder are swiftlet nest extract - of course I'm using the term "stars" loosely here. Diamond powder, as glamorous as it sounds, offers no actual benefit to the skin, besides the optical illusion of brightening and diffusing imperfections on the skin. Swiftlet nest extract, on the other hand, is a popular ingredient in Asia in both skincare and food. The extract is taken from swiftlet nests, which are constructed from the birds' saliva, and only bits are taken from each nest at a time so the birds can easily rebuild. Birds nest extract is supposed to rebuild collagen, aid in cell regeneration, and brightens and hydrates the skin giving an overall better complexion.

As with all two-piece masks, I apply the top half first so that I can get it situated, and then apply the bottom half accordingly and make sure I have enough mask between both pieces to cover my entire face. This mask has pearl paper on both sides, so you'll either remove one side, apply the mask then remove the other side - or you can remove both pieces of plastic and carefully apply the mask piece (which is what I do).
This mask is translucent with the diamond powder and titanium dioxide creating a silver sparkling shimmer all over the mask. The pieces applied easily, but they were still at first and didn't soften up until the essence had mostly absorbed into my skin. I got an overall good fit with this mask, but it wasn't the most comfortable to wear - and while it seemed to have plenty of essence when I first opened the package, it seemed awfully dry when I had it on my skin.
When I removed the mask after about 20 minutes, I was a conflicted with my feelings about this mask. My skin felt plump, was soft, and looked brighter - but it wasn't very hydrated at all, which was surprising looking at all the hydrating ingredients this mask has. I was also a bit surprised to find large silver specs on my skin afterwards as well - like children's glitter, not fine or luminous at all. This mask was a bust for me. I love swiftlets nest extract in other products, but Tosowoong kinda let me down with this one.

#BonVivant Rose Botanical Mask Pack #Review
Bon Vivant is a newer house brand of Memebox, my favorite Asian beauty retailer. When the brand launched, there were three different sheet masks available, and this is one of them. I've never had a lot of skincare with rose in it, but I've grown very fond of the scent and enjoy finding new items that I like with a fresh rose scent to it. For that reason, I was most excited to try this mask out when I received all three.
The Bon Vivant Rose Botanical Mask Pack is a botanical fiber mask. This mask claims to be clarifying and moisturizing, with damask rose as the star ingredient.
Damask Rose contains vitamins A and C which help clarify and brighten the skin. The unique mask material, made from actual rose fiber, is able to retain much more essence than a traditional paper mask, making it more hydrating.

The mask package is paper lined with foil - the mask itself is folded up around a piece of mesh. You will carefully unfold the mask, , remove the half-circle of mesh, and apply the mask to your face. It can roll/fold up on itself easily, so try to do this process delicately - take your time.
The mask material is translucent with a high of pink color, due to being made from rose petal fiber, and has a squishy gauze-like texture that is slightly stretchy.
It smells heavenly - like roses, it's beautiful. The essence is like that of a regular essence, it's not thick but it's thicker than water. When applied, it gives a slight tingly sensation. Memebox claims this is from the essence adjusting the pH of your skin, which may be possible with the Tromethamine, but I don't know enough about that to say for sure. It's not a painful sensation, and it actually feels good if you're experiencing a breakout (like I am).
Even though this mask is thin, because it is able to hold onto so much essence, I can wear it for about 45 minutes before it dries up. My skin feels so hydrated while I'm wearing it and after removal. My skin looks brighter, calmer, and my acne is less painful. Definitely a keeper!

#PapaRecipe 2-Step Skin Cleaning Solution #Review
Giant cotton swabs soaked with acid seem to be all the rage lately. I reviewed the Lucy Beauty Market Miss Wang Peeling Bong from Cupidrop last August, which I had good results from. So logically I had to try more, and see how it compared.
The Papa Recipe 2-Step Skin Cleaning Solution is a two step exfoliating and mask set. The first step is the All Kill PeelingBong, a freakishly large cotton swab presoaked with acidic solution - and the second step is the All Care Mask, designed to rehydrate your skin after the quick peel process.
The ingredients lists for both the All Kill Peeling Bong and the All Care Mask look promising, with Butylene Glycol being the only mild trigger in both steps. I want to take a minute to point out that the peeling bong solution does contain alcohol, which can be harmful to the skin and break down it's natural moisture barrier - but not everyone is sensitive to it and it's likely not as bad in a single use product such as this. That being said, I myself am extremely sensitive to alcohol, but wanting to try this product I'm taking that personal risk. I'm already experiencing a breakout, so I figure at this point it's better to test it out and see if anything gets worse, but I'm not damaging "perfect" skin so I'm not as concerned.
Testing the pH, I came up with a result of about 4.5 - which tells me this product is actually a bit high to provide any serious exfoliation, but still able to gently exfoliate the skin. The plus side is that this means it will provide more gentle exfoliation for sensitive skin, provided you can handle the alcohol content - which I imagine helps the acidic extracts penetrate the skin easier.
So step one was using the freakishly large "peeling bong" - or cotton swab.
I gently rubbed my face with the cotton swab in circular motions for a minute or two, and I could tell the solution was being rubbed off and evaporating because the swab started drying out quickly.
The solution stung a bit, and made my skin feel a little dry, so I was anxious to try out step two - the All Care Mask. This mask is made from some sort of amazing cotton material that feels super slick and smooth. The material is a little stretchy, just enough to get a perfect conforming fit - beautiful. There was a light fresh scent to the mask, but honestly I was too busy running my fingers across the material to pay any attention to any mild scents floating around in the air. The essence stung slightly on my active blemishes, probably due to the previous acid treatment, but it did disappear quickly as well. I kept this mask on for about 30 minutes and savored every moment of it.
After removal, I noticed the redness in my acne had really gone down, and it was less painful too! My skin was slightly brighter, which I'm not sure I can contribute to the entire process or just the amazing brightening ingredients in the mask.
To attest to the powers of even mild exfoliation, I'd like to showcase my disgusting pores... They appear noticeably cleaner after the entire treatment, so I do feel like the peelingbong is still effective.
