Ipsy | July 2015 Unboxing

This months theme for Ipsy was "Summer Lovin'," containing products fit for a great summer routine - being nice and refreshing and a perfect match for the heat and sunshine. 

Spoiler: I'm overjoyed to announce that I didn't receive any sunscreen!

The bag this month is colorful and fun. I love the front-zippered bags better than the ones that zip on the top. I use these bags as a wallet in my purse, and they're super easy to just carry what I need. It's also canvas instead of pvc, which is nice if I'm going to be out in the sun.

1. Teeez Cosmetics: Read My Lips Lipstick in Killing Me Softly (matte coral)
I've been trying more lipsticks lately, and was excited about this one because I love matte lipsticks and I loved the packaging of this one - but coral really isn't a color that intrigues me. This is a great formula, but not the color for me.

2. Crown Brush: Professional Tweezers
The color options for this product were either black or pink, and I'm thrilled to have received the pink one! I'll be honest, I really don't need another tweezers, but this may end up in a giveaway someday!

3. Jor'el Parker: Classico
This scent is described as exotic - with hints of Indian Tuberose, Turkish Cyclamen, and Spanish Mandarin. I hate perfume. There are two perfumes in the whole world right now that I will wear when I feel the occasion calls for it, and this is not even close to being one of those. I will say this is a great summer scent, but I do not like it. It will also be in a giveaway someday.

4. Pur~Lisse: Pur-Bright Ultra Skin Brightening Serum
I always get excited when I get new skincare items in a subscription box, and then am usually let down by ingredients or being a product that I really have no use for. This serum is supposed to brighten and even out your skin tone - perfect for those sunspots I've been racking up this summer - but it contains alcohol so I cannot use it. I did recently change my Ipsy Quiz to indicate that I do not want anything but makeup, so fingers crossed for next month for some good makeup items!

5. Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics: 2-in-1 Shadow/Liner
This is an eyeliner claiming to give a thicker line that is easily blend-able into any eyeshadow look. The color is a nice neutral brown, which honestly isn't a typical eyeliner color for me, but I'm debating trying it as a lid color or just tossing it in the giveaway pile.

I also received shimmer tattoos as an extra points-bones item this month. I'll be 100% honest and admit that I only purchased them to use up my points before them expired. I won't use them. They are pretty though!

This month was nice. I know I sound harsh about some items, but I've been in a slump lately and honestly haven't touched my makeup in about 3 weeks - so it's not that I don't want to try the products that sound good to me, it's just that I don't know if I'll use them or not. I love makeup, and trying new makeup, but it's just not in me lately. On the plus side, if I don't use them, they'll be in the giveaway pile for one of you to win in the near future!

Ipsy | June 2015

After a long break from getting that pretty pink envelope in the mail each month, I re-subscribed and took a chance at getting some products I really might use again. Lets take a look at my June Ipsy bag!

The June theme is " Swim Into Beauty," featuring summer favorites that will look great at the pool or just lounging out in the sun. Neither of which I take part in, but I think the idea is cute. 

One side of the bag is imprinted with "ipsy" in black cloth... 

... and the other side is solid black neoprene. So squishy!

The first product in my bag is the It Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil. I received the shade "Universal Taupe," but since I have lion-king brows to begin with, I won't be using this. 

Next up is the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, which is a staple for many beauty fanatics, but I'm not a huge fan of silicone based primers, and I already have a few to fall back on, so I won't be using this one. 

This adorable little pencil is a Mini Eyeshadow Crayon from Tre'StiQue. I received the color Venetian Gold, which isn't my first choice from the 4 shades available this month, but still a beautiful shade. This was a great pick!

Ipsy also made the record for tinniest nail polish bottle in the world this month...

Just kidding!

But seriously, this bottle is so super small! This is a Formula X polish sample from Sephora, in the shade, Power Source. This is a super-bright shade that really isn't my style, even if it is 100 degrees outside. I'm not a big fan of nail polish in the first place, so I'm pretty indifferent about this. 

Lastly is "The Healthy Body Butter" from Lavanila Laboratories. This is a super yummy smelling lotion, that I unfortunately cannot use because it contains alcohol. Boo =( 

This month was a bit of a bust for me, but I'm still excited to be back with Ipsy and see with July brings to the plate!

Ipsy's November 2014 theme was "Girl Meets Glitter" which seemed perfect for me (since, ya know, my blog name is "The Glitter Chic" lol). Will the products impress this month?

I am in love with this months' make-up bag, look at that pretty shimmery glitter!

These are the products I received; including the brand and name of the product.

Overall this month was a disappointment for me. I loved the bag everything came in, but everything else was pretty useless to me.

The SeaRx is a lotion in a tube that would allow for one, maybe two, uses. I received it in Birchbox months ago and didn't care for it, so I knew to give this away.

It Cosmetics undereye concealer is supposed to be a great product, but I don't feel like my eyes are really to the point where I need extra concealer. I fair well with a highlighter when needed.

J Cat lip paint - ugh. I'm beyond fed up with the crap I get from J Cat and the fact that their customer service is non-responsive. I'm not even trying this out.

The Marc Anthony hair spray looks to be a great item, but my hair is too short for hair spray really. I use a wax and that's it. So someone else will get to try this out instead.

The Starlooks eye pencil looks promising, and will probably be the only item I try out of this months bag.

October #Ipsy #BeautyCandy

I've missed the past few months of Ipsy reviews because of lost bags in the mail, or damaged and missing bags when I receive my package in the mail. Ipsy has had awesome customer service and always sends out a new bag when something like this happens, but it was getting a little frustrating the past three months, when it happened every month in a row! Luckily, October's bag arrived before the end of the month, and fully in-tact! :happydance:

Ipsy's October theme was Beauty Candy. Sweet treats for a sweet look ;-) (That's not really from Ipsy, that's just my take on the whole theme).

Here's what I received in my personalized bag from Ipsy:

• City Color Be Matte lipstick in Cappuccino: I'm not a huge fan of matte lipstick. The only one I have had luck with is those from Kat Von D, and half the reason I love hers so much is because they smell like chocolate. I'm also not a huge fan of brown on my lips. I love pinks and nudes, but do have a few plum and red colors for fall, so this particular item will be going up for swap.
• Doll 10 Beauty H2Glo Highlighter: How ashamed should I be when I admit to you all that I've never really used a highlighter before? I do have a Tarina Tarantino creamy pen highlighter that I use for my under-eyes, but over my face I use an Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder, so I've never used a highlighter. I'm still unsure if I'll give this product a try or give it up for swap.
• Figs & Rouge Hand Cream in Mango Mandarin: Can I just say, that I'm not a huge lotion person? I don't use body lotion (shame on me, I know...) but when I do use anything on my hands, I want a thick cream that absorbs quickly. And this is it! I honestly didn't need another one yet, but hey, it's winter, so I might use up a full sample tube over the next few months lol. I'm a little unsure about the smell, it's kinda fake instead of fresh, but I can deal with it.
• ModelCo VOLUMEYES Extreme Black Mascara: My first issue with this product is that it came with no seal. I don't believe they should sent out mascara in a cardboard package, but at a least get a seal from the company so we know it's never been opened! That being said, I'm in love with the Urban Decay Perversion mascara that Ipsy sent me a couple months ago, so this will be going up for swap.
• Skyn Iceland Mini Glacial Cleansing Cloths: These cloths are an odd product for me, but I'm going to use them up anyway. The first thing I noticed other people mention about these is that they burn. People claim they burn their face and their eyes. So I was wary, but knew I wouldn't be passing along fire cloths to anyone else, so I gave them a shot. First impression is that they smell like cinnamon. Not sweet cinnamon, but like Red Hots (the fire breathing spiced up cinnamon candy). They remove my face makeup ok, without burning my face. But they don't remove my mascara the greatest, and it's not even waterproof! These wipes do make my eyes tingle, but definitely not burn. Long story short, I won't be buying these wipes when I use this sample up.

So that's the products! The big winner for me this month was the super cute turquoise bag. It's already moved into my purse as my take-along lippie bag.

June 2014 #Ipsy Glam Bag

The Ipsy theme for June was "Pretty in Paradise" and the products I received this month were perfect!

This months bag was curated by Rebecca Minkoff and is definitely a paradise delight! I love the bag, and love that is has a front zipper. I think bags like this are perfect for a beach-friendly wallet with room for lip balm and sunscreen.

Speaking of lip balm... every Ipsy subscriber in June received a NYX butter gloss in one of three shades. I received Apple Strudel, and it's probably the most heavenly thing that has ever touched my lips. Along with the paradise theme, I also received a Marc Anthony beach spray to help give hair a bit of beachy curl. I love the smell of this spray, but unfortunately I just cut off all my hair, so I can't really use the product. I'll be going into my giveaway basket for an upcoming Instagram giveaway I'll be hosting. No worries though, because I also received a beautiful blue shimmer liner from Nicka K that will look perfect in any kind of paradise. I am in love with this liner, and the fact that it's shimmery without the addition of chunky glitters. No sunscreen this month, but instead a sampler of light, medium, and dark Laneige BB Cushion (bb cream in a compact) complete with spf 50. And of course, no paradise look is complete without a great mascara - and this month the choice pick is Be A Bombshell "Lash Out" mascara in black.

This was a great month for Ipsy, well worth my $10!

May 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag

"Better late than never" I always say! As we near the June Ipsy shipping timeframe, I realized I still needed to share my May bag with you all! Here's what I received:

The theme for May was "Fresh Picks." I love the canvas bag, it's so soft and earthy!

Derma E microdermabrasion scrub
I love this scrub! Anyone who loved the Dr Brandt microdermabrasion scrub from April will probably like this, and love the price tag even more. I've already purchased a full size of this scrub for a little less than $30.

Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask
I honestly haven't tried this yet. I have heard mixed reviews though. Some say it's great, others say it weighs their hair down. I recently chopped all my hair off, so I haven't been using masks as often as usual.

Hang Ten Classic Sport SPF 50
Decent sunscreen, no complaints. I did not try it out on my face because I break out too easily, so I stick with what I know won't break me out. But this worked great for our whole family.

Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo
So many people complained that this didn't have much pigment, but I don't always feel comfortable with strongly colored eyeshadow, so this was perfect for me. It gave me the perfect amount of color and looked beautiful. I hope to find the full size palette at Target someday.

Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Elusive
I was nervous because I rarely wear any kind of color on my lips, that this would be too strong of a color for me, but I love it! The color is beautiful, and it not drying like most matte formulas out there. It's perfect for summer and will probably work into the fall as well. By winter I know I'll need to add in some extra lip balm, but I honestly think this shade would work year-round. This is another product on my near-future shopping list.

This bag was a real win for me. I loved all the products I received, and was happy to get some care products in lieu of all makeup.

Ipsy April 2014 Glam Bag

They're here! This month I ordered two subscriptions from Ipsy under two different email addresses. I was happy that I received different  products in each bag, but was a little disappointed in the quality of some products, and that I wouldn't use other products. So after receiving both of these almost completely different bags, I unsubscribed from my second bag, and subscribed to BirchBox to give them a try. Here's what I received in both of my April Ipsy bag's:

Bag #1 (my regular subscription):

1. Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil Travel Size: This broke when I tried to use it. Fellow subscribers suggested heating it up with my hair dryer to help it glide instead of drag, but in my opinion I received an old pencil that was garbage.
2. Coastal Scents Medium Shadow Brush: Seems soft, I didn't *need* another eyeshadow brush, but I really like this one and am happy I received it.
3. Dr Brandt microdermabrasion: I literally just bought Neutrogena's Microdermabrasion kit a couple weeks ago and have loved it, so I'm excited to try this too and see how just a "scrub" compares. 
4. Elizabeth Mott pop! goes the shadow: Almost too light, but a night highlight color.
5. Starlooks Lucious Longwear Lip Pencil: Beautiful, I wish all the lip items I received from Ipsy were like this. I won't wear it often because my lips are always chapped, but it'll be nice to have on hand.

Bag #2:

1. Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm: Cute color, but is not a creamy balm. Not something I'll use regularly, but I do like the super-secret brush that hides in the cap!
2. Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil Travel Size: Drags on my eyelid badly, and has very little pigment. I think this one is old too, but I haven't heated it up and re-tryed it yet.
3. City Color White Gold Shadow and Highlight Mousse: Not really a color I like, will probably work as a highlight color.
4. St Tropez Gradual Tan Plus Anti-Aging Multi-Action Face: I'm curious how the "multi-action" features of this would work on my face, but my face it already darker than the rest of my body from wearing a jacket all winter, so I don't want to use a tanner.
5. Such A Tease So Seductive Lashes: Was so excited to try these, but they did not include glue, so I can't until I make a special trip to the store for eyelash glue. That was a huge let-down.

Overall, each bag was a great value, but I realized that I did not need a second bag to get items I really wanted to try.
