It's been a while since I've gotten a Cosrx review up, and I finally feel like I'm settling into our home enough (6 months later) to sit down and start focusing on the blog again. I've talked about the Cosrx AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner in the past, but today I'd like to discuss the two other toner options currently available from Cosrx.

#Cosrx Aloe Vera Sun Cream, Gel & Cream Review

Summer has officially come to an end, and that time gave me a good chance to try out three (of what I consider to be) skincare staples for spending time in the sunshine. What can I say? Cosrx just does skincare right!
Aloe Vera is commonly known for soothing sunburn, but believe it or not it can offer more than just that. Aloe is a gel that comes from inside an aloe vera plant, that holds the plants moisture so it can go long periods of time without needing water. When consumed, aloe acts as a laxative - but when applies to the skin it has quite the opposite effect. Aloe is not only good for healing sun burn, but it soothes other skin irritations, provides light hydration to the skin, and can help calm outbreaks of acne and psoriasis.

In this post I'm going to introduce you to the Cosrx Aloe Sun Cream (sunscreen), Soothing Gel, and Moisture Cream.

The Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream is a SPF 50+ PA+++ Sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. It comes in a soft squeeze tube, with a flip-top cap at the base. It contains 5,500ppm of aloe vera to hydrate the skin while wearing. The cream itself is opaque with a light green tint to it, and has a light perfume-y aloe scent that fades slowly after application.

I personally love that there is virtually no white-cast after the sunscreen has absorbed, and it leaves your skin feeling very soft and smooth. There is no dryness caused by this sunscreen in my experience, which is great, because I tend to peel while wearing most sunscreens.

The Cosrx Aloe Vera Oil-Free Soothing Gel is a very lightweight liquid gel designed to calm and soothe irritated skin after sun exposure, facials, peels, or hydrate if your skin is dry. Instead of water, this gel contains 90% aloe vera juice to help build up your skins natural moisture barrier to help protect it from being irritated further and give it a chance to repair itself - and the addition of hyaluronic acid helps draw this moisture into the skin further. The gel comes in a pump bottle that is very easy to dispense. The gel itself is like a serum - liquidy but more viscous that water. It has virtually no scent - only very slightly of aloe vera - and is essentially clear in color.

Since this is such a calming product, I like to use it most mornings to hydrate my skin before I moisturize, and to draw redness out of my acne and ease any flushing in my face. This gel is of course good if you've gotten too much sun, but I like having it as a regular part of my skincare routine. It leaves no sticky reside behind, which is difficult to find in aloe products.
This product has, unfortunately, been discontinued by Cosrx, so I am an the lookout for something similar in performance and consistency. 

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Sodium Hyaluronate, Arginine, Carbomer, Ethyl Hexanediol, Allantoin, Panthenol

The Cosrx Aloe Vera Oil-Free Moisture Cream is designed to bring moisture back into your skins natural barrier. It contains 80% aloe vera to hydrate, calm, and protect the skin. The cream comes in a tub/jar, which may or may not include a spatula (depending where you purchase from). The gel has a very light scent, and is translucent with a green tinge of color.

The addition of hyaluronic acid in this cream helps draw the aloe's moisture into the skin and chlorophyllin-copper complex helps heal skin damage and help protect the skin against environmental toxins.
The cream absorbs immediately, being more a gel than a cream, and leaves the skin soft and hydrated. There is no sticky residue left behind, even when multiple layers are applied - which is uncommon for aloe vera products, and very much appreciated with this product.

#Cosrx Snail Mask, Essence & Cream Review

I think of snail like a "level" of Asian beauty - you haven't really dipped your toes in until you've slathered some snail mucin on your face.
Snail mucin is good for regeneration of the skin - scarring, collagen loss, acne, irritation... these are all things that can use help in healing.
I trust buying snail products from Cosrx, because they gather mucin without harming any snails - they simply crawl around on netting and the mucin is gathered at it drips down.

Cosrx currently makes three snail-based products, the mask being the newest, and the essence and cream being fairly well known by now. In this post I'll compare the ingredients of all three and tell you a bit about each of them individually.

The Cosrx Holy Moly Snail Mask was just released a few months ago, and I was blessed to have Cosrx send me a few to try out. Of course by now I've been purchasing more, as they've quickly become my current favorite sheet mask. Cosrx uses red ginseng water instead of plain water in this mask, which contains antioxidants and prevents further damage to the skin. Snail is the second ingredient on the list, offering deep hydration and soothing effects to the skin.

The mask material is soft with a bit of stretch. The essence is a bit slimy, but not sticky, with a very light scent. I appreciate the plumping and hydrating effects this mask has on my skin. It's calming and moisturizing - a real winner for all skin types.

The Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence contains 96% snail mucin filtrate, and is designed to hydrate and repair elasticity in the skin. It's sticky and viscous in texture, clear in color, and has no scent.

This is such a deeply hydrating product, that I often find it to be too heavy for my oily skin during the daytime in the summer - this is more of a night-time and winter-time product for me. My favorite use for this essence is my neck, however, as it helps keep the skin there tight and not saggy.

The Cosrx Advanced Snail 92 All-In-One Cream contains 92% snail mucin filtrate, and is designed to soothe and lightly hydrate the skin while providing anti-aging benefits as well. This cream is very lightweight and runny in texture, has a creamy white color, and a barely-there scent.

This is a very lightweight moisturizer that I would see suitable for all skin types. Oily skin will appreciate the benefit of snail mucin while not being greasy or overbearing, while dry skin would find this to be a suitable alternative to a lotion before a heavier moisturizer, or even a soothing hydrator to use before makeup. This is a cream that I find perfect for my oily skin both day and night, year-round.

Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Essence and Cream Review

Hyaluronic Acid is an ingredient that can be beneficial to most skin types. While it may not be for everyone, you may find that this moisture-holding powerhouse is just what your skin needed.
HA is a naturally occurring component of your skin, and it aides in your skins' ability to retain moisture. As we grow older, our skin wears down and there is less HA present, causing our skin to hold less moisture for shorter amounts of time. Since it can hold up to 4,000x it's weight in water, it's the perfect option for drawing moisture into your skin, and maintaining a healthy moisture barrier.

Finding a hyaluronic acid product that works for you, however, can be a daunting task. For me, Cosrx makes two options that I'm happy to call my favorites.

Cosrx uses sodium hyaluronate in it's essence and cream, which is a smaller derivative of hyaluronic acid that penetrates the skin better. Both products are a good option for hydrating, plumping, smoothing, and repairing your skin - but being two different types of products, they each have their own unique use.

The Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence is designed to pull moisture deep into the skin to hydrate dry skin and prevent moisture loss. This deep hydration is supposed to repair and maintain your skins moisture barrier, which keeps your skin smooth and protected. This essence also contains hippophae rhamnoides water which is supposed to keep skin calm and clear.

Because it pulls moisture into the skin, you will also need to remember to seal your skin with a nice cream afterwards to make sure the moisture does not leach back out.

Ingredients: Hippophae Rhamnoides Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Ethyl Hexanediol.

The Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream is designed to deeply hydrate and help your skin retain moisture, supporting a healthy moisture barrier. This cream also contains hippophae rhamnoides water which is supposed to keep skin calm and clear.

The cream allows your skin to retain more moisture on it's own.

Ingredients: Hippophae Rhamnoides Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Betaine, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Arginine, Panthenol, Dimethicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Carbomer, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum.

Comparison:
Both the essence and cream have a similar scent - in which they have little to no noticeable scent... One thing I love about Cosrx, is that they are not big on adding fragrance to their products, so what you smell is naturally occurring in the products' ingredients.

The essence is clear in color and is viscous, but not sticky. It absorbs into my skin quickly and leaves it feeling smooth and looking plump. There is no stickiness afterwards at all.

The cream is white in color and feels thick but is fairly lightweight once on the skin. It holds its form out of the jar, but is easy to spread against the warmth of my skin, and absorbs within a few seconds. With my oily skin, it can leave a slight film if I apply too much, but if I apply just a pea-sized amount it does absorb nicely and leaves my skin soft, smooth, and plump.

As far as performance, the HA essence I can use day and night, and when I do it improves my skins' dehydration drastically. It cuts down on how badly my skin breaks out, it eliminates the dull texture my skin can sometimes get, and it keeps my skin looking plump and more youthful.
The cream I can use day or night during the winter, but only at night during the summer because my skin is so oily. When used as a sleeping pack I wake up with fine lines plumped away and my skin feeling smooth and bouncy from hydration.

Honestly, they are both great products and I will continue to repurchase each of them.

#Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion #Review

I have a slight obsession with creams and moisturizers - I am pretty content with anything at night, as long as it doesn't clog my pores, but I'm a bit more picky during the daytime. I have oily skin so I need a more lightweight moisturizer - but I also have dehydrated skin so I also need something hydrating. I previously have only found two moisturizers that fit the bill - one of which is the Freeset Donkey Milk Cream - but will this lotion add to my daytime moisturizer lineup?

The Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moistuzing Lotion with Birch Sap was originally designed to restore lost moisture in your routine after using aha and/or bha. Claiming to deliver intense hydration to all skin types, and be repairing for damaged skin as well.
The highlight of this lotion is birch sap; an all-natural moisturizer that poses as a good anti-aging ingredient.

The lotion comes in a pump bottle - typical for Cosrx liquid products, and I must admit that I love how easy it is to dispense this lotion product as well. I hope in the future Cosrx considers putting more of their creams in pump bottles. Though I can see some product being lost if you can't find a tiny cosmetic spatula or skewer to scrape the last bits out when the bottle is almost empty.

The lotion is thick and creamy, white in color, and has a citrus scent to it. It can feel a tab greasy at first, but it does absorb easily into the skin after a few seconds.

I've been using the Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion for a month now and am very happy with how it performs. It applies nicely onto my skin and absorbs well. It gives a good amount of hydration no matter if I use it during the day or at night. During the day, it pairs well with sunscreen without causing any balling and doesn't leave my skin greasy. Over night I can wear it alone for light hydration with a sheet mask and have soft skin in the morning - or pair it with a sleeping pack for extra plumping hydration. Two pumps is enough to cover my entire face, so a little goes a long way!

#Cosrx Centella Blemish Ampoule #Review

If you follow me on Instagram, or have even paid attention to posts here where I recommend products - you know that Cosrx is pretty much my go-to brand. They use good ingredients with generally short ingredient lists for their products. There are only a handful of products from their entire line that I cannot use because of alcohol, but the rest of their products make up 90% of my skincare routine. I've been using their products for close to a year now, but only recently started reviewing them, starting with the Overnight Rice Mask then the new BHA Blackhead Cream. Today I'm reviewing a product that I've been using for a while, but still is a newer addition to my routine.

The Cosrx Centella Blemish Ampoule is like a serum, but with a higher concentration of "active" ingredients - in this case, centella. Centella Asiatica comes from a plant and is known to be antibacterial and healing. This ampoule is designed to not only heal acne and and soothe even sensitive irritated skin, but it also claims to control excess sebum and form a protective barrier to prevent irritation as well.

Ingredients: Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Betaine,1,2-Hexanediol, Allantoin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Arginine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex, Carbomer, Hydroxyethylcellulose.

Do not use this product if you are sensitive to butylene glycol, carbomer, or any other ingredients.

This ampoule comes in a glass bottle with a dropper top - it's easy to use, and very easy to dispense just a few drops from at a time. I really appreciate that the bottle has a plastic insert at the top to prevent spilling and to clean the outside of the dropper of excess product so you're not wasting any of this precious ampoule.

The ampoule itself is green in color, due to the Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex. It has an extremely light herbal scent - but it really seems almost scentless to me. The ampoule has the same consistency of a serum; it's heavier than water but still fairly runny. It absorbs into the skin within a few seconds - but it can leave a slightly tacky feeling on the skin.
I find this tacky feeling happens more for oily skin types than normal-to-dry types. For this reason I find this ampoule may only work at night for super oily skin types, like me in the summer - right now my skin is dehydrated but oily, and absorbs this beautifully - but when well hydrated it can leave my skin greasy throughout the day.

I've been using the Cosrx Centella Blemish Ampoule for six weeks, during breakouts and clear-skin times, and am happy with the results. I struggle with hormonal acne, which can take a long time to clear up because it causes deep cysts under my skin. When I use the ampoule, I notice it reduces the redness and inflammation in my skin, and it does help my acne heal in about half the time (about a week for deep cystic acne). When paired with the Centella Blemish Cream (review coming soon) my acne clears up in a matter of just a few days - it's truly an amazing combo!

The Cosrx Centella Blemish Ampoule is a great option for those suffering from mild acne, or looking for additional help in their routine for more severe acne. Centella has amazing healing properties, and can also be a good option for rosacea.

#Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Cream #FirstImpressions #Review

If you follow me on Instagram, you guys know I love Cosrx. My love for them started out slowly when I simply tried one product and was so impressed, I started testing new items as I ran out of what was in my current stash. Not all their products are golden for me, but a majority of them are - so I get really excited when I see new products emerge from their brand.
This cream was available for preorder from Jolse on March 4th, shipped out via EMS (for free as a special promo with the preorder) on the 7th, and I received it on the 11th. I've been using this cream daily for two weeks and feel like I'm ready to give my initial thoughts on it.

The Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Cream is designed to promote smooth skin - comparing it to that of a baby. It also claims it can unclog pores, reduce redness, and improve skin tone and texture.
This cream contains 4% betaine salicylate - which is a more gentle form of BHA than the more commonly used salicylic acid. The interesting thing about this moisturizer is that it not only contains BHA, and supposedly has a pH of 4-5, but it is also contains many hydrating and healing ingredients - and that's what is so unique about this cream compared to others.

The cap has a "poker" on the outside that you'd traditionally use to piece a foil seal on aluminum tubes like this, but because of the plastic threading and opening, the tube actually does not have a seal and the "poker" is just an... interesting part of the design.

The cream itself it white in color and has a mild scent - it smells of tea tree ever so slightly, with a hint of centella. The scent lingers for a short time on the skin but disappears within a minute or so.

This has a thicker consistency, but it's very creamy. It spreads easily onto the skin, and absorbs easily, but seems to leave a light film on the skin, which helps with hydration, but can end up being greasy for oily-skin types like myself.

Cosrx actually warns that because of the slightly acidic pH (which I couldn't verify because neither of my pH strips could absorb this cream) it may tingle slightly. When applied to my hand for photos I felt no tinlging sensation, but sometimes I do feel this sensation on my face - especially when I use it in a shorter routine with an aha. This makes me wonder if a lower pH on your face does influence how well this cream works, but I've actually noticed no difference the following morning one way or another in terms of texture or reduction in acne or blackheads.

Speaking of blackheads - this cream unfortunately did nothing for mine. After two weeks of nightly, and sometimes daily use too, my blackheads on my nose stayed about the same. However the overall texture of my skin does look and feel better - my pores seem smaller on my cheeks and forehead and my skin does feel softer. I've noticed clogs in my cheeks pop out easier while oil cleansing as well, which is a plus for me - but just no difference on my nose...

I think the biggest question I've been asked about this cream while testing it out is "Where do you use it in your routine?" and after playing around I can safely say the best place for this cream is at the end of your routine. The directions indicate you should use this after toner, then apply spf - but that leaves a lot of open steps in between.
When used after a toner, the rest of the products in my routine had trouble absorbing and my skin ended up very greasy - this is much better suited as a moisturizer at the end of your routine. I had a small amount of luck applying my Innisfree Eco Safety No Sebum Sunblock over this during the day without any pilling but a small amount of greasiness, but when using the EltaMD UV Clear Sunscreen it couldn't "set" on my skin and just smeared away after an hour or waiting. So this is very tricky under sunscreen, as it seems too occlusive to allow anything to really settle on top of it.

Personally I would recommend this for all skin types for night-time that are looking for an improved skin texture and/or tone. I feel like dry skin types, or anyone who feels the BHA liquid is too harsh or drying, will really appreciate how moisturizing this cream is. I honestly don't like the idea of this during the day, unless you can find a good sunscreen to play nice with this.

TL;DR: This is a very hydrating cream that contains BHA. The combo of BHA and moisturizing ingredients gives your skin a soft and smooth texture. I do not personally feel it is effective enough to remove or reduce blackheads, but it does seem to make larger clogs and blackheads come out easier during oil cleansing. I would recommend this for anyone who cannot use the BHA liquid because it is too harsh, or would like a moisturizing night cream that can smooth their skins' texture.
